Fits If you landed here searching for window contractors in Naperville or replacement windows, you are in the right spot. You want someone local who will tell you straight whether you need a repair or a full replacement, then leave you with windows that still easily lock in year five. Here’s what I’d ask before inviting anyone out for an estimate. #### First, find out what’s happening around the window **It’s not just the window; it’s how the opening is measured, sealed and finished.** To put it plainly: a high-end window set poorly will perform worse than a mid-range window set correctly. Poor air sealing, foam done wrong, missing flashing and relying on caulk alone can let the weather in. Around Naperville and the Chicago suburbs, a lot of us live in ’80s, ’90s and early-2000s builds where the original windows are tired but the siding and trim look fine from the curb. A quick pocket insert can hide rot and gaps; a full-frame replacement with new flashing is often the better fix for houses of that age when the opening needs work. If you only check one thing, check what the estimator recommends for *your* openings and why. Not just what is cheapest to slide in. #### Ask who installs it and who answers if it leaks Here’s another lesson: ask who does the work and what happens if a window leaks in year three. Crews paid by the window can have a reason to hurry, and it may be harder to get answers later than with an in-house crew. I like the Chicago contractor checklist rule of thumb: look for 10-plus years locally, strong reviews, ENERGY STAR for our zone, an itemized written estimate and a multi-year workmanship warranty. #### Where B.W. Construction fits around Chicagoland B.W. Construction & Home Improvement works out of Roselle and serves Naperville and greater Chicagoland. Its [service area](https://www.bwconstructionhome.com/service-area) includes Wheaton, Arlington Heights, Glen Ellyn, North Shore and more. The family-owned company has been in business [since 1997](https://www.bwconstructionhome.com/about), and company-employed carpenters do the work rather than subcontractors. In my house, that last part mattered more than any brochure line: the person who measured came back with the crew that set the windows. The other positive about B.W. is its Pella connection. B.W. is Illinois’ only [Pella Platinum Premier contractor](https://www.bwconstructionhome.com/about), Pella’s top tier, with factory training and extra installation warranty perks. If you’re in Naperville, ask whether a city grant is available before you sign. The city has offered $250 per window, up to $2,500 and capped at half the project cost, for replacing single-pane windows with qualifying double- or triple-pane windows. The listed terms included a U-value of 0.30 or lower and an application within 120 days [under its sustainability grant tips](https://www.naperville.il.us/globalassets/media/projects/electric/sustainability-grant-forms/single-pane-window-replacement-tips-to-apply2024.pdf). Not every house qualifies, and it’s worth checking the current terms. If you move ahead, expect some dust and an open hole where a window used to be for a little while. A good crew lays drop cloths, checks each opening for level and square, foams and flashes it, then leaves the trim and caulk lines clean before the day is done. You don’t need to have it all figured out before you call. Walk the house, note which locks stick and where you feel air move, then [get a free quote](https://www.bwconstructionhome.com/) and ask those three questions in person. The right contractor will explain which windows can wait, which cannot and why. Without making you learn a new language first. ![Home remodeling project by B.W.
